Mercedes-Benz Arena Stuttgart

Mercedes-Benz Arena, home ground of German major league football club VfB Stuttgart, will be transformed into a football-only facility during the next months. Construction work kicks off with the lowering of the playing field and demolition of the “Untertürkheimer Kurve” grandstand. The main and opposite grandstands will be extended towards the playing field bringing the spectators closer to the action. All work will be carried out while regular match day operations continue.
The next step includes rebuilding the “Untertürkheimer Kurve” grandstand as a two-tier structure at minimum distance to the playing field. With additional business and VIP areas this section of the stadium is an integral part of the overall transformation into a state-of-the-art football arena. Integrated into the “Untertürkheimer Kurve” structure is a 2,000 spectator sports-hall. The sports-hall has a separate access and can be operated independently of the stadium.
As soon as “Untertürkheimer Kurve” grandstand opens for spectators work will commence at legendary “Cannstatter Kurve” grandstand on the other side. Almost directly behind the goal-line a two-tier structure with a large standing terrace for VfB supporters will rise. Even a supporter's sports bar is included.
Throughout the construction phase a 40,000 spectator capacity will be maintained. Eventually the stadium will hold 60,000 spectators during league-matches when work is finished.
The membrane roof of Mercedes-Benz Arena will be extended accordingly in order to further on keep almost all spectators out of the rain.
