German Bridge Design Award 2006 The La Ferté Bridge is an important pedestrian and cyclist connection across a busy four-lane road with tramway tracks in the middle. It links a residential neighborhood to important local infrastructure like the school complex, public festival-ground and the local swimming pool. The site conditions with a steep slope on one side of the road and a flat public park on the other were essential for the design of this asymmetrical bridge. The bridge has an even slope and curvature. It is supported by six slender columns. Instead of walking the gently sloped cyclist's ramp pedestrians can use a steel staircase in the middle of the bridge as a convenient shortcut. The bridge is part of the surrounding landscape without producing a sharp divide or obstructing views.
