A hotel with 100 rooms, a conference area and health spa is being planned for the town of Solingen in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is famous for its metalworking and exhibition centre. The business hotel in the 4 star category is situated directly next to Solingen´s main railway station. The hotel is tailored to suit businesspeople from Cologne and Düsseldorf, because it is situated half way between the two on the Inter-City Express railway line. The main body of the building is graduated in height in order to fit in with the small town´s surroundings and its length is subdivided into three components, which are staggered against each other laterally. The windows are the characteristic element of the courtyard´s façade, which are south-facing and unfold from the façade. The ground floor is turned away from the line of the building and this gesture draws visitors into the lobby. The restaurant on the ground floor opens onto a garden terrace in the planted inner courtyard.
